(Historically: Time: Succession of ages.) (This is the 103rd Surah and along with Surah Al Kauther (108), is one of the two shortest Surah, with a very profound message. Traditionally, Al Asar is felt to represent time, which is felt to witness everything. However, again utilising the lexical and grammar techniques, the concepts leads us to different and more profound meanings. It seems that it is addressed to humanity, who are loosing the big human advantage, and opportunity, given to them by their Creator, through negligence, inaction and resulting in following each other blindly. Eventually, they will be left with this realisation only, for this lost opportunity. It then goes on to beautifully describe, other importantly relevant reasons for this human loss, followed by a very short but very powerful means to protect the human from suffering this catastrophe and moving out of it in a logical manner keeping in view justice and a morally upright manner.)
Surah 103: 1 وا لْعَصْرِ Most of the time, - Surah 103: 2 إِنَّ الْإِنسَانَ لَفِي خُسْرٍ - surely, those of you pretending to forget us, most certainly end up in diminution or total loss in the buiness of life. Surah 103: 3 إِلَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالْحَقِّ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالصَّبْرِ Except those who have safeguarded and secured themselves with deeds free of corruption, full of justice, honesty, and by creating a state of order. So remember to enjoin one another in acts suitable for this, requiring wisdom, justice, reality and facts; as well as to continue to enjoin one another to be patient, and to endure in these attributes.
