Comparison – Asad Translation. Comparison – P-Muslim Translation. Surah 2: 1 آلم Is not mankind in pain and in suffering? 2:1 A.L.M. Alif-Laam-Meem. (Allah, Lateef the Unfathomable, Majeed the magnificent, knows and understands your needs.) 2:1 A.L.M. 2:1 Alif. Lam. Mim. 2:1 A.L.M. 2:1 Alif. Lam. Mim. 2:1 A.L.M. For that suffering, this is the book of principles, lest, this suffering makes you weak, debilitated and driven to ruin. In this book is the banner and standard of conduct that I make clear and evident, for all seeking to be amongst those safeguarding against the end of their physical life; as well as the deprivation of senses, intellectual faculty, grief, sorrows and fears. 2:2 This is a Book whereof there is absolutely no doubt concerning its authority and authenticity. And it leaves no doubts lingering in a seeking mind. It is a Guide for those who wish to journey through life in honor and security. 2:2 This scripture is infallible; a beacon for the righteous; 2:2 This is the Scripture whereof there is no doubt, a guidance unto those who ward off (evil). 2:2 This is the Book; in it is guidance sure, without doubt, to those who fear Allah; 2:2 THIS DIVINE WRIT - let there be no doubt about it is [meant to be] a guidance for all the God-conscious. 2:2 This is the Scripture in which there is no doubt, a guide for the righteous. Such are the ones, rendering themselves secure, safe, and free from fear; with the standard and banner that I make clear and evident continually, and always remain doing so. Those, who are cunning, crafty and cause disgust or hatred, so strive against themselves, subsequently causing difficulties: and are stuck deeply within their characteristics, just like deep pegs or stakes in the ground. They are among those that dwell underground, just like animals belonging to the realm of instinct and urges. 2:3 Those who believe in the Unseen, and establish the Divinely Prescribed System of Life, and set up the Economic Order of Zakaat keeping open for others the resources that We have granted them. 2:3 who believe in the unseen, observe the Contact Prayers (Salat), and from our provisions to them, they give to charity. 2:3 Who believe in the unseen, and establish worship, and spend of that We have bestowed upon them; 2:3 Who believe in the Unseen, are steadfast in prayer, and spend out of what We have provided for them; 2:3 Who believe in [the existence of] that which is beyond the reach of human perception, 2:3 Those who believe in the unseen, and hold the contact-method, and from Our provisions to them they spend. And such are the ones, rendering themselves secure, safe and free from fear; with all preceding knowledge that is sensible and based on fact, that comes from an ancestral source, as a benefit, favour and blessing to you. And what knowledge was preceding that is sensible and based on fact, being derived from an ancestral source, for those, who existed before you, in time, place and rank; as well as for, the ones before them, that recognized truth and became certain and sure of it, both intuitively and inferentially. 2:4 And those who choose to believe in what has been revealed to you, and in the (truth in) what was revealed before your times. And they have conviction in the Law of Requital, and, therefore, in the life Hereafter. 2:4 And they believe in what was revealed to you, and in what was revealed before you, and with regard to the Hereafter, they are absolutely certain. 2:4 And who believe in that which is revealed unto thee (Muhammad) and that which was revealed before thee, and are certain of the Hereafter. 2:4 And who believe in the Revelation sent to thee, and sent before thy time, and (in their hearts) have the assurance of the Hereafter. 2:4 And who believe in that which has been bestowed from on high upon thee, [O Prophet,] as well as in that which was bestowed before thy time: for it is they who in their 2:4 And those who believe in what was sent down to you, and what was sent down before you, and regarding the Hereafter they are certain. Unless you rectify, so amend your behaviour, and achieve decisive control over your weakness and debilitation, you will remain among those who are dubious and confused about conduct, and social behaviour, that all should engage in. And those of you, who exercise decisive control over your weakness and debilitation; are the ones seeking to be among those prospering, so attaining what they desire and seek. 2:5 They are the ones who walk on a path lighted by their Lord, and they are the ones whose crops of effort will flourish and they will truly prosper. 2:5 These are guided by their Lord; these are the winners. 2:5 These depend on guidance from their Lord. These are the successful. 2:5 They are on (true) guidance, from their Lord, and it is these who will prosper. 2:5 innermost are certain of the life to come! 2:5 These are the ones guided by their Lord, and these are the winners. Truly, those who are hiding the sufficient and fulfilling knowledge: due to their denial of facts and the ingratitude of all benevolent acts. This is a characteristic which creates evil, so is abominable and ugly in them. Haven’t I informed and advised them, and put guard in my communication. Still they become confounded, perplexed and unable to see the right course. Unless, they tend, repair, and rectify their affairs, and direct their course towards me, and so heed my communication, which contains advice and information from me. They shall not at all be with the ones who are in pursuit of my protection, in order to be secure, safe and free from all fear. 2:6 Remember that those who have chosen denial in advance, it is all the same to them whether you apprise them (of the consequences of their actions) or apprise them not. They will refuse to acknowledge the truth. 2:6 As for those who disbelieve, it is the same for them; whether you warn them, or not warn them, they cannot believe. 2:6 As for the disbelievers, whether thou warn them or thou warn them not it is all one for them; they believe not. 2:6 As to those who reject Faith, it is the same to them whether thou warn them or do not warn them; they will not believe. 2:6 It is they who follow the guidance [which comes from their Sustainer; and it is they, they who' shall attain to a happy state! 2:6 As for those who reject, whether you warn them or do not warn them, they will not believe. The One who is not a deity for worship and adoration puts a seal of ultimate authority, upon all those whom change their mode and manner of being, as well as those who have already commenced and continue, in what is intended and purposed in the most polished and lustrous banner and standard for them. However the ones who make the standard and banner into what it is not, by falsifying, counterfeiting or embellishing their speech with falsehoods. For them is the most formidable and terrible punishment, take this advice to serve as a warning to others, as well as, to restrain other offenders from repeating the offence. 2:7 God (His Law of Cause and Effect) has sealed their hearts and their hearing, and on their sight there is a veil. And theirs will be a tremendous suffering. 2:7 GOD seals their minds and their hearing, and their eyes are veiled. They have incurred severe retribution. 2:7 Allah hath sealed their hearing and their hearts, and on their eyes there is a covering. Theirs will be an awful doom. 2:7 Allah hath set a seal on their hearts and on their hearing, and on their eyes is a veil; great is the penalty they (incur). 2:7 BEHOLD, as for those who are bent on denying the truth - it is all one to them whether thou warnest them or dost not warn them: they will not believe. 2:7 God has sealed upon their hearts and upon their ears, and over their eyes are covers. They will incur a great retribution. And among the heedless men are those that keep thinking and saying. “We have become secure and safe and free from fear; through the One who is not a deity for worship and adoration, just as those in the generations that lived before us.”. Without in truth, being among those who are actually safe, secure and free from fear. 2:8 And of mankind there are those who claim, “We believe in God and the Last Day", while they are not believers. 2:8 Then there are those who say, "We believe in GOD and the Last Day," while they are not believers. 2:8 And of mankind are some who say: We believe in Allah and the Last Day, when they believe not. 2:8 Of the people there are some who say: "We believe in Allah and the Last Day;" but they do not (really) believe. 2:8 God; has sealed their hearts and their hearing, and over their eyes is a veil; and awesome suffering awaits them. 2:8 And from the people are those who Say: "We believe in God and in the Last Day," but they are not believers. Surah 2: 9 يُخَادِعُونَ اللّهَ وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَمَا يَخْدَعُونَ إِلاَّ أَنفُسَهُم وَمَا يَشْعُرُونَ They hide and conceal, what is in their minds from the One who is not a deity for worship and adoration, as well as from the ones who are truly rendered secure and safe. And can you believe! They intentionally prevent others from discovering or accepting the truth, furthermore, they consider themselves high in estimation, and therefore urge emulation. That is despite knowing the truth of their deceptions, and being well cognizant of it. 2:9 They wish to deceive God and those who have attained belief. But they deceive none but themselves and do not realize it! 2:9 In trying to deceive GOD and those who believe, they only deceive themselves without perceiving. 2:9 They think to beguile Allah and those who believe, and they beguile none save themselves; but they perceive not. 2:9 Fain would they deceive Allah and those who believe, but they only deceive themselves, and realise (it) not! 2:9 And there are people who say, "We do believe in God and the Last Day," the while they do not [really] believe. 2:9 They seek to deceive God and those who believe, but they only deceive themselves without noticing. Surah 2: 10 فِي قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌ فَزَادَهُمُ اللّهُ مَرَضاً وَلَهُم عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ بِمَا كَانُوا يَكْذِبُونَ Among them are those who have changed their mode or manner of being; into a state foreign to their natural constitution, and temperament, so being injurious to their higher intellect. Resulting in being frightened from suddenly feeling separated from the One who is not a deity for worship and adoration: so being in a state foreign to their natural constitution, their temperament and injurious to their higher intellect. And for them is the pain of the supreme punishment and chastisement, a warning to serve for others to restrain them from repeating these offences. This is because they continue to change the truth of what they hear, and continue saying anything but the truth, changing the hopes of others to false and vain ones, and finally acting in the instigating and inciting of confusion. 2:10 (This negative attitude) is a disease in their hearts, and God (His law) increases their disease. And for them is painful suffering, for, they lie to themselves. 2:10 In their minds there is a disease. Consequently, GOD augments their disease. They have incurred a painful retribution for their lying. 2:10 In their hearts is a disease, and Allah increaseth their disease. A painful doom is theirs because they lie. 2:10 In their hearts is a disease; and Allah has increased their disease: And grievous is the penalty they (incur), because they are false (to themselves). 2:10 They would deceive God and those who have attained to faith-the while they deceive none but themselves, and perceive it not. 2:10 In their hearts is a disease, so God increases their disease, and they will have a painful retribution for what they have denied. Surah 2: 11 وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ لاَ تُفْسِدُواْ فِي الأَرْضِ قَالُواْ إِنَّمَا نَحْنُ مُصْلِحُونَ And when, it is expressed to them. You shall not create evil, corruption nor be wrongful and wicked; consequently, causing disorder, destruction, annihilation and ruin in the land. All of them say, "Truly we are all like the ones in a state of order, we are good, incorruptible and honest". 2:11 When it is said to them, “Do not cause disruption in the land (by violating the law)”, they assert, “We are but reformers, setting things right!” 2:11 When they are told, "Do not commit evil," they say, "But we are righteous." 2:11 And when it is said unto them: Make not mischief in the earth, they say: We are peacemakers only. 2:11 When it is said to them: "Make not mischief on the earth," they say: "Why, we only Want to make peace!" 2:11 In their hearts is disease, and so God lets their disease increase; and grievous suffering awaits them because of their persistent lying. 2:11 And if they are told: "Do not make evil in the land," they Say: "But we are the reformers!" Surah 2: 12 أَلَا إِنَّهُمْ هُمُ الْمُفْسِدُونَ وَلَـكِن لاَّ يَشْعُرُونَ Now it is certainly they who are evil, corrupt, and wrongful or wicked; causing disorder, destruction, annihilation and ruin. But still they all say. "We do not know it, or are not cognizant of it." 2:12 Oh, surely, it is those who are the disrupters. But they fail to use reason. 2:12 In fact, they are evildoers, but they do not perceive. 2:12 Are not they indeed the mischief makers? But they perceive not. 2:12 Of a surety, they are the ones who make mischief, but they realise (it) not. 2:12 And when they are told, "Do not spread corruption on earth," they answer, "We are but improving things!" 2:12 No, they are the evildoers, but they do not perceive. Surah 2: 13 وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ آمِنُواْ كَمَا آمَنَ النَّاسُ قَالُواْ أَنُؤْمِنُ كَمَا آمَنَ السُّفَهَاءُ أَلَا إِنَّهُمْ هُمُ السُّفَهَاءُ وَلَـكِن لاَّ يَعْلَمُونَ And when they are told they are secure and safe guarded. Just like other human beings who truly are safe and secure. All of them say, "We believe. We are just like those who are safe and secure, these others are the foolish, unmindful, negligent and forgetful." However it is certainly them, who are foolish, unmindful, negligent and forgetful. But further they claim to not know it. 2:13 And when it is said to them, “Acknowledge the truth as people have acknowledged”, they retort, "Shall we accept what the foolish accept?" Nay, certainly, it is those who are foolish. But they do not know. 2:13 When they are told, "Believe like the people who believed," they say, "Shall we believe like the fools who believed?" In fact, it is they who are fools, but they do not know. 2:13 And when it is said unto them: Believe as the people believe, they say: Shall we believe as the foolish believe? Are not they indeed the foolish? But they know not. 2:13 When it is said to them: "Believe as the others believe:" They say: "Shall we believe as the fools believe?" Nay, of a surety they are the fools, but they do not know. 2:13 Oh, verily, it is they, they who are spreading corruption but they perceive it not? 2:13 And if they are told: “Believe, as the people have believed,”they Say: “Shall we believe as the fools have believed?” No, they are the fools but they do not now. Surah 2: 14 وَإِذَا لَقُواْ الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ قَالُواْ آمَنَّا وَإِذَا خَلَوْا إِلَى شَيَاطِيـْنِهِمْ قَالُواْ إِنَّا مَعَكُمْ إِنَّمَا نَحْنُ مُسْتَهْزِءُوْنَ And when, they all become strong, robust and sturdy; and life is pleasant and delightful. They all believe and say, "We believe". All of them wasted away because of these benefits and blessings; they acted excessively, they were proud, and became corrupt, so unbelieving and rebellious. Saying, "Certainly we only continue doing this because we have become affected with a persistent lust or intense emotion of being overjoyed". These are the ones who shall be ridiculed, mocked and laughed at ultimately. 2:14 And when they meet those who have chosen to believe, they say, “We have attained belief.” But when they go away to their shayaateen (devilish comrades), they say, "We are with you. We were only mocking.” 2:14 When they meet the believers, they say, "We believe," but when alone with their devils, they say, "We are with you; we were only mocking." 2:14 And when they fall in with those who believe, they say: We believe; but when they go apart to their devils they declare: Lo! we are with you; verily we did but mock. 2:14 When they meet those who believe, they say: "We believe;" but when they are alone with their evil ones, they say: "We are really with you: We (were) only jesting." 2:14 And when they are told, "Believe as other people believe," they answer, "Shall we believe as the weak-minded believe?" Oh, verily, it is they, they who are weak-minded-but they know it not! And if they come across those who have believed, they Say: “We believe,” and when they are alone with their devils they Say: “We are with you, we were only mocking.” The One, who is not a deity for worship and adoration, shall decree against you; due to your abilities being too small, and your suppression of truth and continued confusion about your separation from this standard and banner. We use a certain criterion in the decree against you, when you exceed the just common limits; as well as when you exalt yourselves, by being extravagant in acts of disobedience and wrong doing. These ones shall remain confused and puzzled; so unable to see the right course, so are going repeatedly to and fro in confusion and perplexity. 2:15 God will return their mockery to them, and leave them to wander in their arrogance, blindly stumbling to and fro. 2:15 GOD mocks them, and leads them on in their transgressions, blundering. 2:15 Allah (Himself) doth mock them, leaving them to wander blindly on in their contumacy. 2:15 Allah will throw back their mockery on them, and give them rope in their trespasses; so they will wander like blind ones (To and fro). 2:15 And when they meet those who have attained to faith, they assert, "We believe [as you believe]"; but when they find themselves alone with their- evil impulses, they say, "Verily, we are with you; we were only mocking!" 2:15 God mocks them, and leaves them prolonged in their transgression. |
